OTD Program Goals

Actively participate in classes to fully maximize learning outcomes

Establish connections with OT classmates

By December 2023, obtain a capstone placement in a facility that promotes independent living for young adults with developmental disabilities.

Objective 1: By August 2023, receive a tour of two facilities that promote independent living for young adults with developmental disabilities. ​

Objective 2: By May 2023, research five different types of assistive technology that are commonly implemented in group homes for independent living.

By December 2023, maintain at least a 3.5 GPA for all semesters of graduate school.

Objective 1: Attend weekly peer group sessions to go over materials and receive feedback on work.​

Objective 2: Communicate with professors regarding questions on assignments.

Capstone Goals

By May 2025, obtain IRB approval to implement a research study at the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati.

Objective 1: Submit a draft IRB to Dr. Leah Dunn by December 2024, and receive feedback/implement suggested edits. ​

Objective 2: By December 2024, review previous Xavier OTD capstone student IRB submission forms to understand what successful IRB proposals look like.

By December 2025, successfully create and administer my research and program development plan at the DSAGC.

Objective 1: By December 2024, create a detailed week by week plan to set myself up for success. ​

Objective 2: By August 2025, observe an aspect of the Find Your Way program to have experience with this program before completing capstone.

Professional Goals
​Within 1 Year of Graduation:

Work PRN as an OT for children with developmental and intellectual disabilities

Objective 1: By December 2023, observe OTs in different settings that currently work with children with developmental disabilities

Objective 2: By May 2023, learn about possibilities for Fieldwork in this area.

Work full time as an OT in acute care or inpatient rehab.

Objective 1: By April 2025, complete a Level II Fieldwork in acute care to help determine if this is a setting I'd like to work in. ​

Objective 2: By December 2025, complete interviews with different sites with job openings in these settings.

Within 5 Years of Graduation:

Become certified in a specialized area that I am interested in, such as a Neuro Specialist.​
